The Charity Commission has launched its updated edition of the Charity Governance Code, following a number of high-profile investigations of poorly performing charities. It's not about creating hurdles and red tape - it's about encouraging a demonstrable culture of openness, accountability and integrity.
Charities are encouraged to adopt the Code, to show that they take their responsibilities seriously. Take the opportunity to review and update your policies and processes too.
The bottom line is, good governance is no longer an optional extra. It’s essential to charities’ effectiveness and probably their survival too.
