HMCTS is going to pilot flexible working, but will it be flexible or will it be very long days?
There will sessions piloted from 8.30am to 10.30am and 4.30pm to 7pm.
For my part, I think that more court time is a plus, but in my local courts, I cannot imagine how it would be achieved without significant investment in more Judges and more support staff, and at present we can't even fix the lift in Reading.
It will be interesting to see the result of the 6 month pilot.
Courts to pilot more flexible hours in family and civil casesTwo courts in Manchester and Brentford will run the pilots for six months HM Courts and Tribunals Service has announced that early and late sittings will be piloted in civil and family courts, giving people greater access to hearings that can fit around their busy lives. The pilot has been announced by the government following feedback from legal professionals across the country. As a result of this feedback, flexible operating hours are not being piloted in criminal courts. Two courts in Manchester and Brentford will run the pilots for six months In October 2017, a Pilots Prospectus was published which sought feedback on proposals for early and late court sittings before the pilots began.
